Living in such a small town and attending a school where our class size - 15, was one of the larger classes, we were all very close. Darrell was in my class, the graduating class of 1955. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Hartman his parents and one brother, Bill Hartman. Darrell is also survived by a sister, Jackie Herbold of Pierson, IA brother, Jerry Hartman of Columbus, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. Left to cherish his memory are three daughters: Clara Renken of LeMars Bonnie Epling and her husband, Joel of LeMars Pamela Hartman of North Fort Myers, FL a son, Jeff Hartman and his wife, Lori of Maurice along with his twelve grandchildren: Justin, Sarah and Taylor Renken, Neil Epling, Amber March and her husband, Traun, Oceana Gutierrez, Kimberly and Zachary Shriver, Toby Hartman, Nick Egdorf, Travis and Sarah Schwarz and one great-grandson, Brayden Kayser. Darrell also was an active collector of toy trucks and enjoyed woodworking. He looked forward to the camping season each year, when he and Shirley would spend time at Yankton or the Lakes. He enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities. Darrell loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Over the years, Darrell had been active with the Maurice Booster Club and assisted with the Maurice Centennial celebration. Darrell worked as a dispatcher from 1980 until his retirement in 2008. The couple later moved to Maurice, IA where Darrell drove truck for many years. They made their home in Amarillo, TX, from 1957-1961, while Darrell served in the United States Air Force. Darrell and Shirley were blessed with four children. On Aughe was united in marriage to Shirley Hulstein in Sioux Center. Darrell attended grade school in LeMars and graduated from Pierson High School. Darrell Gene Hartman was born Mato William and Bernice (Whitmeier) Hartman at LeMars, IA. ![]() Interment will follow the service in Sherman Township Cemetery of Rural Maurice. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30AM at First Reformed Church of Maurice, Iowa with Rev. A prayer service for family and friends will be held at 8PM. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8PM with the family present from 6-8PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.Darrell Hartman, 73, of Maurice, IA died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, and a great-grandson, Tylin Marple. She was always known to greet people with a big hug and a warm smile. She enjoyed her family, her grandkids, bowling, football (especially the Huskers), doing word puzzles, and reading. She was then employed at Stockman’s Café and the Tumbleweed Café until she retired in 2003. She was a stay at home mom and did in-home babysitting until 1977. During her married life, she and Bill lived in Aurora and moved to Broken Bow in 1961. After graduation, she attended Wayne State College and worked at The Morrison Hotel as a waitress. She grew up in Wayne and graduated from Wayne High School in 1950. Survivors include son, Jerry Marple and his wife Deb of Broken Bow daughters Joni Paulsen and her husband Steve of Kearney Jill Hadwiger and husband Darryl of Pleasanton and LeeAnn Amm of Kearney 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. On May 22, 1959, she married Bill Gamble in Wayne and they had three daughters. On October 10, 1954, she married Dale Marple in Wayne, who later died in a vehicle accident. She was born Jin Pender, NE to George and Caroline (Koopman) Witmer. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Kathy Salts officiating. Patricia Ann (Witmer) Gamble, 81, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, Apat CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, NE.
